Modular Camping Braai

Modular Camping Braai – Rugged, Portable Outdoor Cooking

A good camping braai needs to do more than simply hold a grid over a fire. It needs to be strong enough for repeated use, compact enough to pack away easily and practical enough to take wherever the road leads. This  Modular Camping Braai ticks all three boxes.

Designed for camping and overlanding, this robust flat-pack camping braai combines precision engineering with a simple modular construction. It assembles quickly without special tools and packs down into a compact, flat profile when you're ready to hit the road.

Available in two sizes – Standard and Mini – you can choose the setup that best suits your outdoor cooking needs and available packing space.

Proudly South African. Designed with Intent.

The Metaal Modular Camping Braai is a proudly South African designed and manufactured product, created with a practical understanding of what outdoor enthusiasts actually need.

This Maker doesn't just manufacture products — they design with intent. Every component, cut-out and connection has a purpose, with careful consideration given to durability, portability, functionality and ease of use. The result is outdoor gear that isn't simply made to look good, but is designed to work hard, pack efficiently and stand up to real-world use.

From the precision laser-cut components and modular construction to the flat-pack design and rugged materials, the Modular Camping Braai reflects a commitment to thoughtful South African design and local manufacturing.

It is a product made here, for people who love getting outdoors — whether that's heading off on a serious overlanding adventure, setting up camp for the weekend, or simply enjoying a proper braai around the fire.

Built for Real Outdoor Use

Manufactured from 2mm steel, the Modular Camping Braai is designed to cope with the heat and thermal cycling associated with wood fires and hot coals. Precision laser-cut components provide accurate fitment, while the interlocking construction creates a solid and stable braai once assembled.

Choose between 2mm Raw Mild Steel for a rugged, practical option or 2mm 3CR12 corrosion-resistant Stainless Steel for enhanced resistance to corrosion and the demands of regular outdoor use.

Unlike flimsy disposable camping grills, this is a reusable, long-term outdoor cooking solution designed to be packed, transported, assembled and used again and again.

Flat-Pack Design for Easy Transport

Space is always at a premium when you're camping or overlanding. The Modular Camping Braai solves this with a clever flat-pack design that packs down neatly when not in use.

The components assemble in seconds without specialised tools, making setup quick and straightforward when you arrive at camp. Once the braai has cooled and been packed away, its flat profile makes it easy to store in your camping gear, vehicle storage area or even a standard ammo box.

The Mini takes portability even further, with an assembled size of approximately 30cm × 22cm × 17cm, making it a great choice for smaller camping setups, picnics and shorter outdoor trips.

More Than Just a Camping Braai

The modular design gives this outdoor braai plenty of versatility. Use it as a camping grill for cooking over hot coals, or use the body as a contained fire basket for a campfire.

Laser-cut slots are designed to accommodate the compatible 380mm braai skewer set, providing a secure cooking surface for kebabs, sosaties and other skewer-based meals. Skewers and other accessories are sold separately.

Whether you're cooking steaks and boerewors at camp or simply gathering around a cosy fire pit at the end of the day, the Modular Camping Braai is built to make outdoor cooking easier.

Ideal for Camping & Overlanding

The Modular Camping Braai is particularly well suited to:

• Camping trips where packing space is limited.
• Overlanding adventures and 4x4 travel.
• Fishing trips and weekend getaways.
• Picnics and outdoor gatherings.
• Bush and off-grid cooking.
• Backyard braais and patios.
• Small outdoor spaces where a compact braai is more practical.
• Road trips where a flat-packing cooking solution is essential.

The Standard version provides a more substantial cooking setup, while the Mini is a convenient option when portability and minimal packing space are the priority.

Care & Maintenance:

Allow the braai to cool completely before cleaning or packing it away. Remove ash, soot and food residue with a stiff brush and warm water. Avoid harsh or abrasive cleaners that may damage the surface finish.

For the Mild Steel version, we recommend applying a suitable wax or light coating of oil after cleaning to help protect the steel against rust, particularly when it will be stored for an extended period.

Store the braai in a dry location, preferably inside the supplied PVC carry bag, when not in use. Proper cleaning and storage will help maintain its condition and ensure many future camping braais around the fire.
